Greenbacker
Building and owning the clean power infrastructure of the energy transition.
Greenbacker is a multi-strategy sustainable investment manager and independent power producer that connects individuals and institutions with opportunities to build the infrastructure of the energy transition. It both manages energy-transition investment strategies and directly owns and operates hundreds of clean energy assets. We are an investor in Greenbacker's sustainable infrastructure.
Why we invested
Caring for creation is part of how we understand human flourishing, and the shift to clean, reliable power is one of the most consequential pieces of that work. It is also a real investment opportunity. Demand for electricity is rising quickly, the grid needs to become more resilient, and renewables are now the most cost-effective new power to bring online. Greenbacker sits right in the middle of those trends.
What drew us in is that Greenbacker does more than allocate capital. It owns and operates the assets itself, which gives it firsthand insight into where capital can work hardest across the sustainability asset class. That combination of an experienced manager and a real, operating clean-power fleet is the kind of durable, income-generating position that fits how we build our portfolio: financial performance and environmental good pursued in the same investment.
What Greenbacker does
Greenbacker runs two connected businesses. Its investment management arm advises several energy-transition strategies for individual and institutional investors, and its independent power producer acquires, owns, and operates clean energy projects that generate revenue by producing and selling power.
By its most recent reporting (as of March 31, 2026), Greenbacker has:
$3.1 billion in assets under management
3.3 GW of clean energy capacity
17.1 million MWh of clean energy produced since 2016
16 companies backed and 120+ employees dedicated to the energy transition
Its fleet spans utility-scale solar, wind, and battery storage across the country, from the Appaloosa Solar plant in Utah to wind projects in California and Maine, many of them planted with pollinator habitat or paired with local scholarships. Greenbacker has been recognized on the ImpactAssets 50 list of impact fund managers.
Why it matters to us
Greenbacker turns our capital into real, working clean-power infrastructure that reduces emissions, strengthens the grid, and supplies homegrown energy for decades. It lets us extend our stewardship of capital into the stewardship of creation while earning the returns that keep a mission-driven portfolio strong. That is exactly the pairing we look for.
